James W. "Bud" Hirsch

July 3, 1925 - January 26, 2015

James W. “Bud” Hirsch of Apopka, FL, passed away at the age of 89 on Jan. 26, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara (nee Chuprin) Hirsch. Son: James C. Hirsch of Tinley Park. Daughters: Charlotte (Steve) Gasser of Naperville, Mary St. Pierre of Apopka, FL. Grandchildren: Lelia (Anthony) Amadio, David (Sarah) Hirsch, Emma (Sean) Rogers, Carl (Elizabeth) Hirsch, Chloe Gasser, Cameron Gasser. Great-grandsons: Anthony James Amadio and Raymond Amadio, Jameson and Jackson Hirsch, Cooper James Hirsch. Sister: Carol (Ed) Loeffler. He was preceded by his brother, Carl Richard "Dick" Hirsch during WWII; mother, Lucille (late Walter) Howton and father, Carl (late Dorothy) Hirsch. Bud was born in Mokena on the family farm. He graduated from Joliet Township H.S. as “Jim McCabe” and was active in ROTC. He served as a sharpshooter and scout in the U.S. Army infantry during WWII, receiving two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He lived in Alaska for a time before graduating from Worsham Mortuary College. Bud and Barbara raised their children among a community of friends in Miller Woods and at Lincolnshire C.C. He retired after 30 years as a Funeral Director and Embalmer and was a former owner of West End Spindler-Koelling/Hirsch Funeral Homes and was involved in the Chicago Heights Community. He loved to hunt and golf and truly enjoyed his retirement with his wife Barbara and their friends at Errol C.C. in FL. Funeral Service will be held on Sat., Jan. 31st at 11:00 a.m. with Military honors. Visitation following from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Heartland Memorial Center, 7151 183rd St., Tinley Park, IL.
