Elaine Beverly (nee Butzer) Scharnhorst, age 73 of Chicago Heights, formerly of Matteson and Manteno was called to her Eternal resting place on March 8th at Vitas Hospice surrounded by love. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry "Butch" Scharnhorst in 2007. Survived by her former husband John Banser. Children Sandy (Bill) Mattull, John C. "Chuck" (Kathy) Banser, Sherry (Ken) Ray and Sheila (Pete) Stepanovic. Grandchildren Billy Mattull, Laurie Banser, Ricky Ray, Pat Banser, Adam (Amanda) Ray, Zach Reasor, Jon, Kayla and Jason Stepanovic. Great grandchildren John and Alexandria. Brother Robert (Bonnie) Butzer. Preceded by her sister and her husband Janet (Harold) Stuenkel and her parents Merlin and Sylvia (nee Vogt) Butzer and grandsons Jacob and Jacques Stepanovic. Elaine spent most of her life doing what she did best and that was being an amazing loving Mother and Grandmother. She worked as a waitress at Perkins in Matteson and the Olympian Restaurant in Olympia Fields. She was also a beautician and managed Sally Beauty Supply; retiring in 1999. Elaine was a member of the Altar Guild and Ladies Aid at Zion Lutheran Church in Matteson. She belonged to TOPS, a Pinochle Club and loved to cook and bake and her many recipes will live on. She also was an avid camper and spent many cherished moments with friends sitting around the campfire. Visitation Sunday, March 15th from 2 until 9 p.m. at Heartland Memorial Center, 7151 W. 183rd St., Tinley Park. Funeral Monday, March 16th, Visitation 10:00 a.m. until time of Service 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 3840 W. 216th St., Matteson. Interment to follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Country Club Hills. Donations to the family will be shared with the Ladies Aid at Zion Lutheran Church in Matteson and Vitas Hospice at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights.
