Ann Mari Porter

Ann Mari Porter, 98, formerly of the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago, passed away peacefully in her home at Brookdale in Olympia Fields on January 16, 2017. She is survived by her daughters Barbara Ann Horvath of Tinley Park, IL and Christine (David) Mitchell of Houston, TX; daughter-in-law Mary Jo (Phillip) Olson of McFarland, WI; grandchildren Heidi (Jeffrey) Ruhe, Andrew (Jillian) Horvath, Rebecca (David) Stockwell, Anne (Jason) Napieralski, Jacob and Alix Mitchell; great-grandchildren Lucas, Benjamin, Reagan, Vivian, Abigail, Noah, Elliot, Max, Oscar and Sawyer; niece Linda (Robert) Klute, nephew Richard (Shari) Jonsson and her caregiver Dorothy. Preceded in death by her husband Arthur Forrest Porter, son Jon Porter, her parents Anna and Sixten Jonsson, and brothers and sister-in-law, Nils (Becky) Jonsson and Ralph Jonsson. Mrs. Porter obtained her Master's Degree in Education from Chicago State University in 1963 and her Bachelor's degree from the Chicago Teachers College in 1943. As the Assistant Principal at Spaulding School in Chicago, she devoted herself to the students of the City of Chicago. She was a member of the Morgan Park Baptist Church in Chicago and was involved with the P.E.O. and Sunshine Club. An avid bridge player and tennis player in her youth, she lived her life in a meaningful way to its fullest. A memorial service will be held in March.
